If you’re planning a vacation to Mexico, whether for an all-inclusive trip or a self-guided adventure, you should be aware of a new requirement that’s been implemented in Quintana Roo. The new Mexican visitax, also known as a tourist tax, comes into effect on April 1, 2021. The purpose of the VISITAX is to generate additional revenue for tourism development in the state of Quintana Roo. This includes the beaches, cultural attractions, and other projects that promote sustainable growth in the industry. This link:visitaxmx.org

Who Does The VISITAX Apply To?

All foreign travelers staying at hotels, resorts and rental homes in the state of Quintana roo will be required to pay VISITAX. This includes popular destinations like Cancun, Cozumel, Tulum and the Riviera Maya. It doesn’t cover the rest of Mexico, so if you’re planning on visiting other parts of the country, you won’t be required to pay this fee.

The VISITAX is a 224 peso (USD $11) fee that’s required to be paid before you board your departure flight. Luckily, you can avoid the long lines at airport security by paying online ahead of time. This is a quick and hassle-free process, which will ensure you can quickly and easily make the necessary payment for your vacation in Mexico.

All you have to do is select the number of days you’ll be staying, enter your contact information and select a payment method. Within an hour, you’ll receive an email with a QR barcode that you can show to airport security when you arrive to board your flight. This will save you valuable time and will ensure you’re prepared for your next adventure to Mexico.
